What is a ‘Future Vision’ project?

As a Designer, I frequently collaborate with clients on projects that involve creating a future-focused design vision. In these projects, I am able to use all of my design skills and experience to create a comprehensive design strategy for my clients. As a design consultant, working directly in-house on the company side, or together with agencies, I utilize my knowledge of brand design, UI/UX, design systems, visual design, and brand experience to create a cohesive and unified design vision.

These projects can range in function from quick look-and-feel design sprints to highly detailed playbooks. The initial design explorations and blueprints are then used to kick off the full process of crafting a cutting-edge and visionary brand or product experience.

Here are some examples of ‘Future Visions’ I have created for Salamander, Dornbracht, and Eventim.

A Future Vision for Salamander

A Future Vision for Salamander

This project for Salamander was an initiative I undertook to redefine the digital presence and brand experience of the renowned German shoe brand. In collaboration with the design agency, Mutabor, I spearheaded the UI/UX, visual design, and concept development for Salamander's E-Commerce platform as part of their extensive rebranding journey.

This distinctive and branded online presence sets it apart from competitors in the fashion and footwear industry.

Website Relaunch for Dornbracht

Website Relaunch for Dornbracht

The website relaunch for Dornbracht was a transformative Future Vision project aimed at revitalizing the online presence of the renowned German luxury brand, Dornbracht.

As specialists in designer fittings for bathrooms, spas, and kitchens, Dornbracht has a legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and sophistication. This legacy needed to be reflected in the digital presence of the brand. With this in mind, I developed a refined visual design language that encapsulates luxury, sophistication, and innovation.

Project Objectives

Project Objectives

A core objective was to elevate the overall user experience by creating an intuitive and visually engaging website that would resonate with Dornbracht's discerning clientele.

Through extensive user research and interviews, we identified two main target groups who engaged with Dornbracht's online presence looking for inspiration and product information. These were homeowners looking to modernize or build their own homes, and professional architects and interior designers, who used the website during the creation of mood boards and when ordering products for the build phase of their projects.

Balancing Visual Branding and Commerce

Balancing Visual Branding and Commerce

The project aims to strike a harmonious balance between the aspirational and visual branding that epitomizes luxury in the interior design industry, and the practical benefits of an e-commerce platform that facilitates swift decision-making and purchasing. This equilibrium ensures that the website appeals to both emotional and functional needs.

The Future Vision for Dornbracht was a multifaceted project that integrated several critical components to redefine Dornbracht's online presence: extensive client collaboration, in-depth user research, and a meticulously iterative visual design process, all underpinned by the creation of dynamic prototypes and animated visuals.

This resulted in a design vision for an online ecosystem that not only showcases luxury and product innovation, but seamlessly integrates inspirational content, product information, pricing details, and a simplified ordering process into a platform that transforms the digital presence of a luxury German brand.

Eventim Redesign

Eventim Redesign

Eventim is the world’s second-largest provider of ticketing services and Europe’s number-one for music and live entertainment tickets.

In collaboration with the Senior Vice President of E-Commerce and Eventim’s Design Lead, I embarked on a transformative journey over the course of 2 years to modernize the Eventim brand and product experience.

This comprehensive redesign project aimed to enhance the user experience, unify the brand identity across all platforms, and ultimately boost revenue and engagement.

Project Overview

Project Overview

Visual Audit: I conducted a thorough examination of Eventim's existing design elements across all touchpoints to assess their cohesiveness and effectiveness, and proposed improvements to enhance the user experience.

UI/UX Enhancement: I developed the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) strategy for key components of the platform, including the homepage, product pages, and artist pages.

Branding Strategy: I formulated a new branding and design strategy for Eventim to create a fresh, modern, and cohesive visual identity.

Future Vision: I crafted a forward-looking "Future Vision" for the platform, envisioning how it could captivate and engage audiences with an enhanced user experience by integrating video content and music playlists into the artist pages, while simultaneously driving revenue and increasing user engagement.

Logo Redesign: As part of the process I redesigned the Eventim logo to align with the new brand identity, simplifying and aiming for a more contemporary and memorable look.

Typeface Selection: I selected a new house typeface that would unify all Eventim products and materials, ensuring consistency and readability.

Visual Design

Visual Design

Modernizing Eventim's design language to align with brands like Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music and Songkick was a strategic move that aimed to enhance the user experience and bring a fresh, contemporary feel to the platform.

I found that users associated the visual design of a website or platform with its relevance and trustworthiness. When the design feels outdated or "old-fashioned," users perceive the platform as less relevant, potentially impacting their trust in the service.

By aligning the visual aesthetics with modern brands like Spotify and Apple Music, which are also an integral part of the customer journey to reach the Eventim platforms, I sought to convey a sense of modernity and relevance with the new visual look and feel.

Homepage

Homepage

The Eventim homepage is the first port of call for customers who are interested in buying tickets for a concert or event, but perhaps do not have a specific artist in mind. The design approach here emulates a classic wall of posters you’d find in the physical world, and invites the user to discover the biggest upcoming events and what’s on sale currently.

Artist posters are used as a navigational device throughout the platform and this approach aligns with the visual history of the music and live entertainment industry. Fans of a particular artist can quickly identify and click on their poster to access relevant event details. This simplifies the navigation process and enhances the user experience.

Logo Redesign

Logo Redesign

The ‘refresh’ of the Eventim logo was an integral part of the modernization process. The original logo was outdated, overly complex, and did not lend itself well for use across digital touchpoints.

With the redesign of the logo, I aimed to clean up and simplify the ‘Starfield’ brandmark, resulting in a simple constructed star shape. The discovery phase involved testing a wide range of condensed typefaces, which echoed the original highly condensed wordmark, but conveyed a more friendly and modern contemporary look.

The final selection of Proxima Nova Condensed Bold for the wordmark resulted in a compact and modern logo, with the curves of the new star brandmark echoing the shape of the ‘m’ in eventim. The new logo typeface and the use of Proxima Nova in brand

The new logo typeface and the use of Proxima Nova in brand communication materials create a cohesive and consistent brand identity.

Outcome

By modernizing Eventim's design language and user experience we created consistency in design across all touchpoints, from the website to the mobile apps, from the physical tickets to the promotional materials advertising the shows.

These improvements collectively contribute to a more engaging and user-centric platform, ultimately benefiting Eventim and its audience.
